I think the Maroon mascot should be a Pirate because Prates would "Maroon" mutinous shipmates on deserted islands, with no hope for survival, just like we want to do to our opponents!
The meaning of maroon is to isolate. Pirates would leave mutinous shipmates on deserted islands, without any means of survival.
