I think I may have already seen this suggestion, but I couldn't find it when I looked... I think we should be the Monks. We are a Lutheran school, Luther was a Monk, and monks are intimidating.

My idea for the school's mascot is the Pride. The costume will be a lion wearing some sort of maroon jersey. I find this mascot to be perfect because we could call ourselves the Maroons while still having "Maroon Pride" and our pride in our school is so strong, it competes with that of a lion.

The mascot could be a sea captain (like Captain Ahab or the sea captain from the Simpsons) who is crazed and out for revenge. He carries a harpoon with him, threatening to spear the mascot from the other team. (This idea could also fit with the Maroon Typhoon idea. It's hard to make a costume out of the Typhoon, so the mascot could be the sea captain, even though the team will be known as the Maroon Typhoons.)

I think this would be a great mascot! Bulldogs are friendly and like we are in person and yet, can be aggressive like we are when it comes to sports and academics!

Since Roanoke is in the mountains and the mountains are a big part of the history or the region and ultimately the college, I think that honoring those who settled the area would be appropriate.

The first thing that comes to mind whenever anyone asks me what exactly a maroon is an actual maroon Crayola crayon. I think it would be the most fun for the campus, and though silly could unite the Roanoke College Campus the most if we had a Life Size Crayon (maroon of course) dancing and pumping up the crowd on the side of our sporting events. Sometimes it is the simplest things that can best succeed and bring a campus together.
