Our symbol would be a train engine -similar to Purdue. Our mascot would be an engineer of the Maroon Express. This would highlight our heritage with Norfolk & Western. The locomotive would have RC emblazoned on the front of the engine. The mascot would be an engineer that would be in charge of "driving" the "Maroon Express"at all of the games! We could have a crossing gate when our teams take the field and when ever we want to "fire-up the crowd..we blow a train whistle. The engineer (Max?...or maybe another contest to name the engineer?) would be a visable person at games or other school functions.
Tags: I also see a refurbished locatmotive engine and caboose sitting in the grasy area down by Kerr Stadium. Spotlights would accent it at night, but the caboose could be used for meetings, tailgates, or anything to highlight Maroon spirit. I

The mascot should be the roanoke rebels... it brings a fierce name out onto the playing field, intimidating other teams... yet is a cute mascot and would be cool to have on t-shirts and other clothes. GO ROANOKE REBELS. It brings an edge to this classic college setting at roanoke college.

This is a video I made just because I was bored and I saw the add on facebook... So I think a Marooned Islander will be perfect for your college. I hope I win and it would be funny if a sophmore in high school beat college kids for a idea for a mascot. Yeah!

I think RC Ravens is snappy, and like other people have said, the raven is a noble bird. Maroon, grey and black go well together making this a smart choice visually as well. As college students we also like our freedom, and what better than a bird to signify our freedom?

A long haired, ragged shorts wild man much like the Tom Hanks character from Castaway - running around with volleyballs and basketballs with faces painted on them cheering the crowd with loud cries of "Wilson"...

This would connect Roanoke College to the Roanoke Valley and the history of the railroad. The mascot could be a train engine or a conductor, or even just a train whistle!

The Maroon Bowties would be such a fun mascot. It represents our president, and it is a mascot as unusual and funny as just being the Maroons.
