In the context of history, maroons were slaves to British crop owners who rebelled and made a name for themselves in the mountains of Jamaica. They were warriors, raiding the sugar crops they were forced to work on, killing white militia men, and freeing their fellow slaves. They made history, showing that small groups of men had the ability to fight their oppressors and win.

How much scarier could we get. Our goon will beat up any other team. This mascot is very strong and shows that we can take em all. Of course he will be dressed in a maroon top. Henchman are just what we need.

We could have a mad hatter mascot of course dressed in maroon. This reminds me of midnight madness during winterfest. This would also be a fun mascot and easy to come up with characteristics for it. The mascot could lead a bunch of fan nights where he encourages them to do certain things, such as a Bahama night or inside out night or different things. You never know what you will get from a mad Hatter!

This mascot would be magical show how our teams are true performers! The hat could be maroon and the different sports could be shown, for instance a basketball, baseball, tennis ball, lacrosse stick, different symbols for each team. Magicians are also mysterious and will always keep our opponents guessing

Similar to a maroon typhoon, a monsoon would symbolize the storm and damage that the maroons could do to the other teams. They will not want to come visit the maroon monsoon!

My idea is a cardinal- it is the state bird of VA and it seems pretty fitting. The symbol would be the Arizona Cardinals logo with Roanoke written on the top and College on the bottom.

How about the "Maroon Raccoon"? Play on words, maroon and gray banding, warm and fuzzy, big eyes, black mask for intregue. Plus you attach the word Maroon to every reference.

I would like to submit the entry of :: the Maroon Monarchs as your new mascot. The dictionary definition of a monarch: one that holds preeminent position or power is just the mascot needed by Roanoke College to lead them to victory over their competition! It is a timeless name and will equip and inspire Roanoke College into the future. The logo could be a maroon and grey shield with the Roanoke College seal on it, also a crown which would signify the entitlement of supremacy the name Maroon Monarchs implies. Also for a little fun, the Maroon Monarch mascot could sport a bow tie as a tribute to President Michael C Maxey. The Monarch mascot could be a medieval king, a good king that is. The name Maroon Monarchs would also serve as a positive role model and students and alumni alike will be proud to support the Maroon Monarchs in all their endeavors.

My idea is as follows: (1) Roanoke College is located in the Blue Ridge mountains, so a way to connect the mountains with the school could be a positive, (2) The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a very popular dog worldwide, (3) A Ridgeback can be any color---even Maroon. So, my mascot idea is to create the ROANOKE RIDGEBACKS
